| At check in, the first thing the clerk said when I presented my reservation was, "There's a $3.96 surcharge." I said, "For what?" She said "It's just a surcharge." I replied, "Are you just changing the price arbitrarily or is there a surcharge for something specific?" She thought a moment and said, "Electricity." Apparently quoted room prices don't include basic items like electricity. I'm surprised she didn't try to charge me for water. If I had had other options at that moment I would have left for another hotel. |

| This is my first hotel review, and I thought enough of my experience at the Riviera that I should post my comments. The Riviera is a great bargain. I did not need a spa, workout room, or Internet access (they have all three at extra costs). My main requirement was a quite room with a nice bed, and I was pleasantly surprised. The Riviera is an older LV hotel, but the rooms have been remodeled and the beds were comfy and cozy. The bathroom shower was warm with good water pressure, and they provide decent soap, shampoo, lotion and nice thick towels. Cable TV, phone, ipod charging clock radio were all good. The on-site 24 hour convenience store had plenty of those things you forget you need and reasonably priced pre-made sandwiches and salads. They also have more expensive restaurants and a fast food court with a variety of choices. They are located at the north end of the strip, so you have to do some walking to get down to the heart of the strip, but I found the location manageable with an occasional trip on the Duece (don't bother at night it is too slow) or the Monorail, which stops at the Hilton. If you want to save your money for other things and your needs are basic this is a great bargain! |

| For the price, I thought it was a very nice hotel. The bed was comfortable, it was a good size, not too shabby. My only complaint was that my heater did not work so at 4 am we had to call the front desk and they brought in a heater. Over all, I'd stay there again. |

| They had a convention at the same time I was staying at the Riviera; we stayed there because we knew we could get in an out off the strip (but stay on the strip) because the parking garage is in the back. They did nothing to guarantee the people staying at the hotel any place to park (they actually told me I would have to find somewhere else to park). I went in the casino and spoke to management and got passes around 4 different times before they decided to open the employee parking for everyone. There were three floors of valet parking that was not being used because there was no valet parking. They have signs advertising valet but due to economics they had no valet staff, so if you are not going to use that part of the garage open the parking for everyone to park in.
I stayed 6 days and out of the 6 day the buffet was only open 2.5 days of that time don’t advertise it if you are not going to open it for the public. |

| The staff in general was excellent. The woman at reception was terrific...very personable. The ar tenders didn't seem too friendly or conversive. The room was excellent! Everything looked brand new.
I had stayed there for New Year's of 2008-09. It was busy and fun. This time the Casino was quiet and not paying off well. One time there were about 7-8 people in the whole of the casino. But there are many others near by.
The location is good. An easy walk to the Encore, Wynn, Hilton, Sahara, Circus-Circus....Bus stop in front of the hotel...easy to get to downtown(Fremont St) or to the other end of the strip...Luxor, Mandalay Bay, etc. |

| Excellent hotel for the money. There were no long lines at check in and the staff was very helpful. The room was clean and nice. I've stayed in lots of hotels where the rooms were not as nice and paid a lot more. I will definitely stay here on my next trip to Vegas. |

| Parking is terrible, too much walking, especially when physically handicapped. |

| The hotel has some realy old and dingy parts to it so hope that you are placed in the new part of the hotel. The reception area has a constant smell of smoke which was a major turn off from the moment I walked into the building. The casino floor had less smoke smell than the reception area. Go figure. I like to play craps and I found only one crap table open and it was run buy some rude and apperently unhappy workers. On the weekend night the $5 table went up to $10 which is a little too rich for me and the other table is still not open. This leaves me with having to leave the hotel to play someplace else. Since the hotel is not connected to the monorail system getting to other hotels on the strip is just a little more work. Attending a convension at the sametime didn't alway leave me with the luxury of finding transportation to other entertainment locations. I ofen like to play at the hotel I'm staying at when attending a convetion. The one cafe that was reasonably price was located near the conference halls. It closes eary which was a turn off. I did eat at the steak house one evening and the food was very good. At a price of over $110.00 for 2 with only 2 glasses of $10 wine and desert I would have been upset at this price if the food and service were not exceptional. We were in one conference hall where projectors were used and we were told that the lights in the front of the room could not be dimmed or turned off. This is not good for presentations. I found the way the hotel labled the room numbers and the elevator confusing and silly. Upon your first visit you too will be lost as to which button to push. I can certainly see why Hotels.com has it listed as a 3 star and maybe it should even be a 2.5 or 2.75 star if there ever is such a rating. |
