Golden Gate, Las Vegas : Summary

Golden Gate, Las Vegas Overview

The historic Golden Gate Hotel and Casino is a tourist-class hotel and casino, located eight miles from Las Vegas McCarran International Airport. An outstanding value, this landmark hotel is situated at the end of the Fremont Street Experience in downtown Las Vegas.

Built in 1906, The Golden Gate has the distinction of being the oldest downtown hotel,  and the most intimate, with just 106 rooms. It has also been called the best hotel in downtown Las Vegas. This hotel is unpretentious and attracts a loyal clientele, including locals as well as returning out-of-town guests. The Golden Gate offers visitors a look at the Las Vegas of yesteryear, and is probably the only hotel in Las Vegas that has a master pianist playing your favorite tunes at the baby grand in the middle of its casino.

Guest Rooms
The guest rooms offer modern comforts and amenities. These rooms have been updated and renovated over the years, without spoiling the ambiance of this historic hotel. Rooms offer one queen or two full size beds (upon availabilty at Check-In) as well as in-room coffee, complimentary newspaper, cable TV, voice mail services and computer ports.

Gaming

Everybody knows that the downtown casinos have the loosest slots!  Choose from over 400 slot machines, as well as a wide variety of table games.  The Golden Gate also has a Sports Book for your gaming pleasure.

Dining

The Golden Gate is renowned for originating the famous shrimp cocktail and still offers them for 99 cents at its Shrimp Bar and Deli. Another of the hotel's high points is the Bay City Diner, which serves outstanding traditional entrees at value prices. Don’t be alarmed if you see emergency personnel gathered inside. The Bay City Diner is a favorite of locals who know a good meal, including the police.

More Fun

Situated at the end of Exciting Fremont Street, take in the spectacular laser light show that spans 5 pedestrianized blocks. Street entertainers abound, and the state of the art sound system will get your mojo going!

Nice boutique hotel in the Fremont Street Area. If you are going to stay downtown, you can do no better for the price than a stay at the Golden Gate. Nicely appointed room, clean, and right in the middle of all the action of fremont Street,..Great bar and the best shrip cocktail in vegas, try their sandwich deli as well - best sandwich Ive had since i left new york..

The Golden Gate is the oldest hotel in Vegas. The rooms are comfortable, clean and modern, but I would love to know the story behind a hotel room that has been in use for over 100 years in Vegas!! Yhe bar at Golden Gate is the friendliest, and the shimp cocktail is worls famous and I just couldnt seem to eat enough of them ! At night go-go girls dance in the table area and the place rocks. Couldnt have had a better time.. A+++

This was a good hotel for what it was priced at. It's located right on the Freemont Street, which is one of the major attractions in Las Vegas.

The Golden Gate is a 100+ year old hotel, and quite charming. There are long narrow corridors, and most of the hotel room doors are only 6' high, almost feeling like a monastery. Getting into the room though, they've really done a remarkable job in making these small rooms very hip and classy. The bedding is very comfortable, the colors and furnishings are as hip as the newer rooms on the strip. That being said, there are down sides. There are new flat screen TV's, but they only get 12 channels! And the big thing, which you've probably been warned about: THE NOISE. I willingly took a room opening onto Fremont St, having been warned that the noise starts at 6 PM and continues until after 2 AM. This is a 100 year old hotel with single pane windows, folks! So what did I do? I went out shopping in the afternoon, and came back to take a nap at about 5:50 PM. And at 6PM sharp, loud, blaring music, being played no less by the Golden Gate Hotel for their dancing girls! I'm still glad I stayed there one night. It's an historical building with lots of charm. If you wake at 6PM and stay up all night, don't hesitate! Otherwise, at least be sure to take a room on the back side of the hotel.

These are rooms for the hardcore gambler or partier. They are definetely built for 1, I actually got in my own way a few times. The bed is comfortable and there is a small chair to use for pondering where all your money went. On to the bathroom, well its a bathroom. Don't expect any counter space to keep the bathroom condiments and appliances because there is none. There is not even enough space to turn around until the door is closed. Which as a male was ok, but I know the wife would not have been pleased. The shower must have been built with Billy Barty in mind as I had to crouch down and squeeze up against the wall (without touching it) to get wet. Also as I read in another review there is some strange odor in the hallways something like a port o potty after a chili cookoff. This place is definitely not for the faint of heart. Now on to determine the proper side to request your room on. As a bit of a degenerate gambler when I go to Vegas the rooms on Fremont Street are definitely my choice as I will not hit the room until 3 or 4am. Do not even think about trying to catch any zzz's until after 2am unless you can sleep through Lollapalooza. But after 2am it is quiet enough until at least 10am. If you do like going to bed early you can request a room in the back of the hotel. But expect a pleasant wake up call from the garbage and linen trucks at 5am with follow ups every 10 minutes. I recommend this hotel for single male budget minded gamblers looking for their own room.

Second stay here in past 6 months. Perfect for price and location if you are not obese/large/very tall. Rooms and showers are small but nicely decorated. Free coffee in-room, Neutrogena toiletries and delicious food in Bay City Diner downstairs. Will stay again.
