Believe it or not, some travelers to Las Vegas reach critical mass when it comes to the strip’s non-stop glitz and glamour. Take a break from the madness and expand your palate in ways you never thought possible at Las Vegas festivals this spring.
St. Patrick’s Day
Who would’ve thought a desert town could turn so green? Nearby Henderson’s annual event, sponsored by the Sons of Erin, includes a parade, festival, car show and entertainment. It runs March 12-18, 2012.
On the strip, New York, New York’s Nine Fine Irishmen Bar parties non-stop for three days. On Fremont Street, Hennessy’s offers all the traditional “fixings,” and some not so traditional, like Irish nachos.
Pure Aloha Festival
Experience two days of total Polynesian immersion with food, music, dance, and art. North Las Vegas’s Silverton Casino is the venue for this October festival celebrating the area’s Hawaiian immigrants.
UNLVino
What goes better with food than wine? For three extraordinary nights, March 31 to April 2, 2012, come and taste extraordinary champagnes, wines, sake, craft beer and award-winning cocktails. Proceeds go toward a UNLV scholarship fund for hospitality students. Paris Las Vegas hosts the main event, the Grand Tasting. More than 100 international wine growers will participate, and there will be an auction of wine-themed art. Designated drivers are provided.
Epicurean Affair
On May 24, more than 75, world-renowned chefs from all over greater Las Vegas will sharpen up their knives for the gourmet event of the year. It’ll be the best of everything foodie in one night of divine indulgence. This year’s event will be held at the Palazzo. Tickets will be available from the Nevada Restaurant Association web site. Proceeds will the benefit the culinary educational programs of the Nevada Restaurant Association (NvRA) and the NvRA Educational Foundation
Cinco de Mayo
Grab your sombrero and don your serape; it’s time to mark the historic day when Mexican troops routed the French to defend their independence. On this day, everyone’s from south of the border, and the margaritas will be flowing like a river all up and down the strip. The Las Vegas Mexican American community also hosts a more down-home festival at Freedom Park, featuring dancing, mariachi bands, fireworks, and traditional cuisine.
