When you are looking into Las Vegas real estate listings, you need to keep in mind what buying a home means for you and your family. If you have children in elementary, middle, or high school, the place you buy your home will determine where your son or daughter goes to school. If you never had kids, or your children are long since moved out of the house, and you want to move to Las Vegas for the warmth and year-round golf, that will impact the location of your search too. If you consider Vegas on its compass points, you can get a vague idea of what it will be like to live in the north, east, south or west of Vegas. Each region is known for a unique style.
Nellis Air Force Base is located in North Vegas, and so, much of this portion of the town is infused with the flavor of the military presence. Additionally, the north is popular for family community (gated communities with golf courses and the like) and community education. The east side is closer to Lake Mead and the people who tend to live on this side of town are more athletic and outgoing. The community is focused on cycling, golfing, fishing—the outdoors in general. South Vegas is home to the Strip and most of the city’s liveliest activities, and West Vegas is known as the newly built area of town.
No matter how much stereotypes try to take hold of Las Vegas, the city simply defies categorization. You can certainly aim to live in a place that supports your needs and those of your family, but just because you purchase a home in the north does not mean you have to have two-point-five-children-and-a-labrador-retriever-and-four-wheel-drive. Nor are you required to play the strip if you landed in the south.
